Plant Love
There’s just something about spring that always evokes joyful feelings of hope and childlike anticipation of what lies just around the corner. Winter seasons of cold barrenness can feel endless and sometimes wondering if there really can be “life” again. And then, every year, here comes spring, reminding us that indeed God has been busy working, just out of our sight. And all those seeds, all the hopes and dreams begin to burst forth in new life again.
Truly what we plant, we will harvest. If we plant bitterness, hatred, prejudice, judgment, self-righteousness, stinginess, self-centeredness… we will harvest the same in our lives. Rest, assured that every seed of kindness we have planted, every seed of mercy, every seed of compassion, every seed of gentleness, every seed of forgiveness - every seed of love we will harvest in our lives. Most times I have found this to be instantaneous. Giving instantly lifts my heart and my spirit!
Father, when I grow weary I thank You that You remind me that Your promises are true. I close my eyes and remember the joy I have in giving. I close my eyes, and I remind myself how over and over again you have lavishly and openly blessed me in ways, I never expected and beyond anything I could’ve imagined.
Forgive me, Father, when I grumble. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You and steadfastly plant Your love in the hearts of everyone I encounter. Thank You for Your love. Thank You for not leaving me where and how You found me. Thank you for showing me that the truth is, You were always there waiting on me to look up., closer than the very air I was breathing. Oh how I love You.
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.
